Trauma Therapy

Trauma therapy is a way of doing therapy that can help you with emotional responses that surface after dealing with a traumatic event. These are immediate or long-term chronic patterns that tend to affect your quality of life and relationship with yourself and others.

While regular talk therapy can be helpful for making meaning out of trauma or attempting to resolve and understand triggers, I believe a more integrative approach to trauma treatment and healing is key.

The modalities of healing from the inside out that I make the most use of includes:

  • Earned secure relational safety in your therapy

  • Awareness of the body

  • Meaning making

  • Emotional connectedness

  • Nervous system regulation

  • Memory reconsolidation

Approach to Trauma Recovery

  • Embodied Self-Compassion - somatic experiencing, awareness and processing with the whole body online, including your mind and heart

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) - meaning making and emotional processing

  • Interpersonal Neurobiology - this informs how we process our experience

  • Memory Reconsolidation

Safety, relationship and rapport in therapy contribute to your therapy space feeling safe, collaborative and attuned to your needs. Before we dive into the deep work, it’s important we establish this together. Our therapists understand that only you can determine what feels safe, and this is based on the uniqueness of your nervous system, heart, mind, and body.

The experience of trauma can cause us to feel like the world is not a safe place. It can leave scars of helplessness and disempowerment that can get covered up by sophisticated coping strategies that are ultimately unfulfilling. Even if the only work we do together is create connection and a felt sense of safety, even this is hard, effective, life altering work. However, together we will work to engage and surpass your therapy goals, giving you access to a more resilient and higher quality of life.

When it comes to trauma or any type of therapy work - there is no one-size-fits-all approach. At the center of this work is the power of the therapeutic relationship and the way it gets used to help you improve your life. At the same time, there are evidence based modalities in therapy that when engaged bring an effective therapy experience to your fingertips. Below you will find additional information on the advanced therapy modalities we value and put into practice.
